Description
Did you know that because tea and coffee are lightweight goods, they tend to have very little carbon impact from shipping and packaging? Yet, at the same time, the milk you add to your cup has a relatively larger impact.
Removing milk from your tea or coffee habit, especially cow milk, is not only healthier for you but mitigates the negative impacts of animal agriculture. For example, a cup of tea without milk can be as much as a 1/4 of the carbon pollution. The raising of cows for milk is inefficient and contributes to deforestation as forests are cleared to make way for cattle ranching and the cultivation of animal feed crops, such as soybeans, to feed cows.
If you use a small amount of cow milk for your coffee or tea here or there, then the impact is not that large. Yet if you can cut out cow milk for your coffee or tea, this is a nice, simple action and step toward a more sustainable world.
Tips
• If you still want a creamy taste for your tea or coffee, consider using a nut or oat milk or substituting with a dairy-free creamer. All options are better than cow milk and tend to be a little healthier.
