Description
Take a little time to scan your day for signs that your community is changing for the better, not only through better choices, but also through nature returning. Look in places such as your street, nearby shops, your workplace or school.
These might include e-bikes and bike-share stations, repair cafes, refill and reuse systems, solar panels, people-friendly streets, new gardens, green walls, new trees, or pollinator-friendly plantings.
The complexity of climate change can feel overwhelming. When you see change in motion, it becomes easier to believe progress is possible, talk about it, and take the next step. Research on norms shows that people are more likely to adopt a behavior when they learn that it is becoming more common.
Noticing everyday nature can also make ecological change feel more personal. A stronger nature connection is associated with greater pro-environmental behavior.
Practicing this awareness makes climate issues more tangible and can help you notice opportunities to take action.
Tips
• Scan for the Shift: Look for climate-friendly shifts on your street, in a shop, local restaurant, or at your workplace or school.
• See Different Angles: Consider changes related to energy, travel, reducing waste, buildings, food, or greening a new area.
• Capture What You See: Save a quick note, photo, or voice memo. Keep your signals in one place for easy reference.
• Amplify the Effect: Tell someone what you noticed with a simple line such as, “I have been seeing more [shift signal] lately.”
• Repeat: If you like this practice, do it once a week to keep noticing new solutions and positive changes.
