The David Suzuki Foundation is a national, bilingual non-profit organization headquartered in Vancouver, with offices in Toronto and Montreal. They have remote staff and dedicated volunteers throughout Canada. Through evidence-based research, education and policy analysis, they work to conserve and protect the natural environment, and help create a sustainable Canada. They regularly collaborate with non-profit and community organizations, all levels of government, businesses and individuals. Their goals include transitioning away from fossil fuels to renewable energy, climate justice, restoring and protecting at-risk ecosystems and species, and creating thriving and sustainable communities in Canada that respect planetary boundaries. They work with and recognize the rights of Indigenous communities. Their story began in 1989, when David Suzuki‘s award-winning CBC radio series It’s a Matter of Survival sounded a worldwide alarm. Scientists had proven that human beings were having a larger and more detrimental impact on the Earth than any other species in history. It became clear that we needed to change the way we were living, consuming and thinking about our natural world. The roots of the organization grew from there. To get started, you can sign up for their newsletter and look for a local community group or start your own. They have many campaigns to get involved with and support people to act online or locally.
