The Deep South Center for Environmental Justice is a nonprofit in Louisiana dedicated to improving the lives of children and families harmed by pollution and vulnerable to climate change in the Gulf Coast Region. They utilize research, education, community, and student engagement for policy change, as well as health and safety training for environmental careers. A major goal of the Center continues to be the development of leaders in communities of color along the Mississippi River Chemical Corridor and the broader Gulf Coast Region that are disproportionately harmed by pollution and vulnerable to climate change. Their Navigate NOLA program (http://www.navigatenola.com/) is the social and emotional community wellness division of DSCEJ. Part of Navigate NOLA work is providing programs that enable New Orleans girls and youth to thrive. DSCEJ is best suited for residents of southern states, especially states along the Gulf Coast. Youth are encouraged to get involved. Get started by following them on social media and signing up for their newsletter. Also check out their upcoming events.
