The Mahila Housing Trust (MHT) is improving urban built environments in poor communities through collective action. Since their establishment in 1994, they have mobilized women to exercise their civic rights and empowered them to take charge of their habitat improvement process. They forge relationships with low-income communities and local governments to advance access to basic services, promote climate resilience, and deepen participatory governance. Some of their current programs focus on working with government to secure clean water and sanitation, disaster response, climate resiliency and energy efficiency, housing finance, and women's rights. Today, they work in cities and rural areas across 9 states in India. They ensure that services get to the poor and their voices are heard for city-level planning and governance processes. MHT’s work has been recognized nationally and internationally and has received numerous awards. This group is open to both residents of India and people around the globe. You can get started by signing up for their newsletter to receive updates and look at their knowledge hub.
