Mums for Lungs is a grassroots organisation in the UK that works to put an end to air pollution. It was established in Brixton, London in 2017, when a number of mothers were on maternity leave together. They became aware of the toxic levels of air pollution on the UK’s streets while walking around with their babies and decided to do something about it. Most of their members are ordinary people with no specialist background in air pollution, who volunteer their time to campaign. They focus on sustainable transportation, ending biomass, lowering emissions and pollution, and working with politicians to create policies that stop climate and ecological breakdown. They began as mums on maternity leave but have grown to become a network for everyone. You don’t have to be a parent to get involved, and they are actively encouraging people outside of London to join their campaign. Check out their Get Involved page and sign up for their newsletter to get started.
