Rising Tide is a non-profit climate justice organisation that mobilises Australians to take nonviolent direct action. They call on politicians to secure a safe, habitable earth and honour our commitment to the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement. Their goals include a rapid transition off fossil fuels, taxing fossil fuel export profits to fund a just transition to clean energy, and ending all coal exports from Newcastle – the world’s largest coal port – by 2030. Australia is one of the world’s largest exporters of coal and gas. The emissions from these exports dwarf their domestic climate pollution. Their methods include raising awareness about the climate emergency, growing Australia's climate movement, supporting First Nations people, taking nonviolent direct action to block fossil fuel projects, and demanding action from decision-makers. All citizens are welcome to join Rising Tide. Many of their actions are family-friendly. You can get started by following them on social media, signing their pledge, joining an online meeting, or checking out an upcoming event. There are local chapters around the country.
